Slow & Steady

As some of you many know, last year I participated in my first fitness/figure competition, but following, I had a hard time adjusting to the realities of post-competition. Particularly I had severe stomach issues and weight gain. Mostly, I battled with myself of really wanting to do it again. That and the constant questions from people about when my next competition would be.

After much thought, I decided to retire the bikini (for now), but not my love for fitness and health. I’ve decided to challenge myself with something else that pushes my personal boundaries. I’ve decided to run the Toronto Waterfront Half Marathon. For those of you who don’t know the distance its 21.5 km.

Now, I may be fit and healthy, but nothing has prepared me for the beating my body is taking since taking up my newest challenge less than three weeks ago. Note: I do not advocate this crash course program for anyone and the views expressed are from my experiences alone.

As someone who almost always finished last in track and field in middle school and found every excuse to not have to run, I know this challenge is going to be more than just about running a race, but something to help me over my personal traumas from eons past.

As they say…slow and steady wins the race.

What are you doing to challenge yourself this season?

Summerlicious & Black Accents

I love summer. I say this all the time but really, heat makes me happy. I love the warmth of the sun on my shoulders, and love being outdoors on a hot summer’s evening and best of all, I love not needing to carry a jacket.

On this particular summer’s evening, I went to a Summerlicious restaurant in Toronto called Nyood. Summerlicious is one the greatest ideas ever for those who want to indulge in a culinary experience without the price tag. For a few weeks out of the summer, many well-known restaurants usually feature a sample tasting menu that’s reasonable on the wallet.

Heading to a trendy downtown restaurant, I opted for a floral patterned skirt, with the simplicity of black accents. And in case you’re curious, the food was sublime.

Stripes & Solids

If there’s one trend I’ve noticed this coming fall season is the abundance of leopard print. It’s everywhere. While I am enjoying the revival of animal print, I feel that the zebra print is not getting the attention it deserves.

I wore this to celebrate my twenty-something birthday a few weeks back…and rather than give my girlfriends any ammunition or smart ideas about the “cougar” look, this did just fine.

Take 2: Monochomatic Neutrals

I was inspired to wear this outfit from a fellow bloggers’ take on a cream monochromatic look. Kat’s look inspired this work ensemble and you can see her look here. I figured it was time to pull it together before the fall made it too cold or wet to wear.

Have you been inspired lately?
