Distinctly Vintage

First off, I have to apologise for the plethora of pictures, but they were turning out wonderfully; it was too hard to not share them (believe me I edited out quite a few!). I loved the vintage-y feel to the pictures, somehow my camera decided to work like “instagram” – I don’t own an iPhone but I know what that app is!

Sweet Summer

In an instant, anything can change. It could be the slight temperature difference in the air which can signal summer is coming to a close, or coming home to a flooded apartment from a leak in my A/C (a moment I won’t be forgetting anytime soon!). But being mid-August, I am already getting nostalgic. Between concerts, new partnerships, recipes, and travel, this summer has been absolutely perfect.

What are your most memorable summer moments?

Cinnamon-Vanilla Egg Puffs

I'm always on the look out for new recipes and treats that are guilt-free, tasty and above all satisfying. I had heard a lot about "egg-puffs" and was curious to try them out and see if it really worked. The best recipe I have found so far comes from Vanilla Bean Lean's website and you can see her recipe here

 Ingredients for Cinnamon-Vanilla Egg Puffs
Egg whites (I used the carton)
Cinnamon (to taste)
Stevia (powder or liquid I used a packet of vanilla flavoured Stevia)
Splash of Vanilla extract

This recipe is a cinch! Pre-heat oven to 350-400 F. Then, whip the egg whites until they form peaks (I used a hand held mixer) add in your cinnamon, vanilla or any other spice you like and whip some more. The egg will look frothy but you should see the points formed when its ready. For stiff peaks, beat egg whites on high speed until they form peaks that stand up straight when beaters are lifted.
Once ready, place on a baking tray (in whatever dollop sizes you like) and bake until you see the puffs beginning to brown. This should take between 7-12 minutes. Cool and enjoy!
Sadly my Camera decided to stop working just as they were popping out of the oven and they didn't last long because they were gobbled up!  But I did borrow a picture from VB's site below.

I am the queen of wearing monochromatic colours. It’s flattering, never goes out of style and makes for a wonderful palette to add pops of colour or accessorize with great jewellery or a cute handbag. This month’s EveryBody EveryWear challenge was putting together a monochromatic outfit – right up my alley.

Penny For Your Thoughts...

Many of my non-Canadian readers may not know this, but Canada is getting rid of the penny because it costs more to make than they’re worth! Yup that’s right. If something costs $1.41 and you don’t have exact change, well, you’re in deep doodoo. Haha kidding! Of course there are provisions in place with the penny being abolished. I don’t want to bore you with details but you can read more here if you’re really that interested. How I see it, there’s no need to hoard pennies given that Canada has about 30 billion of these the little buggers in circulation every year, that and I’m sure you’ve got a few lying around the house as we speak. Just check under your couch cushions.

Coffee N Coco Protein Ice Pops

Hot summer days remind of times when my siblings and I would spend the day riding our bikes in the neighbourhood, and right around dusk, we would pool together our dimes and nickels to race to convenience store to get our favourite treat – 10 cent Popsicles! Our biggest problems: choosing the flavour, followed by splitting the Popsicle in half without breaking it in the wrong place. I can’t say I’ve had a store bought Popsicle in a long time but it doesn’t mean that I don’t want a cool treat to beat the heat!

I decided to create my own protein infused Popsicle treat to satisfy my sweet tooth craving…
What you will need: Popsicle mould (I bought mine from Loblaw’s (President’s Choice) that are Paraben free.

1 scoop Cookies N Cream Protein Powder
1 Scoop of Greens (I use Cyto Greens) – this can be omitted
1 frozen banana
1 tsp coco and maca powder
1 espresso-sized cup of coffee

Fill Popsicle moulds with mixture and freeze overnight (I had enough for seven). Take out Treat and enjoy.
The following belowi s the approximate nutritional value
Calories per popscicle: 32
Protein: 3 grams
Carbs: 4.2 grams
Fats: 0.4 grams
