Post Competition Blues

As most of you know, one month ago I competed in my first figure competition and had an amazing experience. I met other competitors from the blog world, and was able to get my body in the best shape I have been in EVER.



However, I am not experiencing what some competitors call the Post Competition Blues. For one, when you're used to living at the gym and nnowo suddenly have free time on your hands, it can be difficult to not want to let your body rest and recuperate.

Food has become a love hate relationship. I still eat like I am in competition mode for the most part but then see something i must eat and I have to be careful not to binge. For me, I eat cereal like I've never seen it before. I kid you not. My sister saw me mix about 3 cereals into my bowl because I didn't want to miss out on any of them...and well she thought I was absolutely off my rocker and for me...its scary! Watching my body become a bit soft again is hard. as is not being too critical.

But what's most disconcerting is the weight gain....it happened quickly for me. I am ten pounds heavier at the moment and while that may not seem like much, it shows on my frame. My skirts are a bit snug, and I gym shorts don't fit like they used to.

What's been helping me with the post Competition Blues is knowing I am not alone. I have been keeping up with other bloggers who have been just great resources! I have even had personal email to help me stay on point with grocery lists!

Chantelle  recently did a guest post which I felt was taken straight from my inner depths and discusses my fears and worries about post competition.

Then there is Figure Girl World, another amazing woman who gets it! their stories with the post competition blues were mirrors of my own worries and slumps. But at the same time I just found it so INTUITIVE that this is what they are writing about when I am feeling this way.

Currently I am working on the love hate relationship I am having with my body. I love how its filling out but I do miss being in the "peak" phase

  3. I knew a girl who was big-time into the beauty pageants, and she also experienced post-competition blues.  It happens.  You get such an adrenaline rush, but you have to come down sometime.  Good luck with everything!  You know that all of us love you. :)

  5. Honey you will look great in any shape..cause you are beautiful no matter what! I know you might get a little blue after being in such impressive shape but it is ok...eventually you will find a place for your body where you´ll feel good and awesome....and for me..you are always at your peak cause everytime I see you I can only think...Damn she is gorgeous!

I gained twenty pounds in 5 weeks.  Not saying that it was ok (it's not), and not saying that 10lbs in one month doesn't suck either (especially after getting used to being smaller, it really does).  But it happens.  It's part of the learning process.  You need to re-introduce yourself to your body, because it is not the body it was before.  After my comp my cravings shifted from sweet to salty, and my body fat changed in its distribution (more in my upper body than before).  I think it probably takes a few tries to learn what the best way to come off the prep/comp is.

  8. I'm yet to compete, so I haven't experienced the post-competition blues. I'm 100% positive that I will though, purely because I can be very hard on myself in general.

    That being said, I've always maintained the same weight for the past 3-4 years, but I did do a cut for my wedding, and I dropped just over 10 pounds. The effects were very short lived as the second I began eating normally again (ie my reception!) I regained all the weight. My binge food was bread - I couldn't get enough of it! Within three weeks, I was back at my maintenance level. It just shows how difficult remaining that lean all year round can be!

  9. I was at my physical peak about a year ago (for my wedding, surprise, surprise; there's probably a medical term for it) and only very slowly allowed myself to slide back. I've never quite reached what had previously been my normal, because I did learn a lot of things about eating better and eating more of the way my body wants me to along the way. It's been a tough slog, though, not going to lie. But the fact is that when I was in that kind of shape, I had no time for anything else. All I spent my time on was exercising, planning healthy meals, making those meals or planning time to fit in exercise. In the long run, it was no way to live. I'm still working on trying to find a balance, but it's an ongoing battle. One thing I always try to remember is how much I learned about my body in that time, and what an impressive instrument it turned out to be, no matter what size and shape it was. I know you'll make it through this- it's all part of the learning process that is life :)

    You look absolutely great! And fit! I guess its normal to slide back a little now that you are suddenly free and not at the gym all the time... It'll take some time to get used to the new routine but am sure you'll take care of yourself! You are an inspiration to many others.. dont forget that! :)
