My Fairy Blog Mother

Some of you may have noticed that my blog recently went through a transformation. It’s all because of my fairy blog mother Laura, from the Blog of Worldly Delights. Laura is not your typical blog guru, she is by far one of the most accommodating people I have worked within the blogging industry, especially for someone like me who is extremely challenged with technology and web design. Not only is she a sweetie, I just love her style, not to mention her funky hair! She has agreed to let me do a brief interview of who she is and how she became a blogger.

Can you tell us about yourself? I'm 27, and live in a teeny city in Illinois. I live with my husband of 5 years and our 3 adorable kitties. I love reading books (classics and comics), cooking, and crafting, but I'm definitely not a domestic (as in, I hate housework and chores). I have an M.A. in Old English Literature, but I haven't taught in a while. Instead, I sell my cute crafts in my Etsy store and blog about the delightful things in my life.
How did you get into blogging? And tell us about your blog? I started my blog, the blog of worldly delights, during my last semester of grad school (2011) because I wanted to take my mind off of translations, teaching, and academic work. My blog has been my creative outlet where I showcase my outfits, recipes, DIY ideas, and musings about all the stuff that I hold dear to my heart.
What would you consider your style to be? I like to think of my style as "geektastic." I usually go for colorful and bold pieces with lots of fun, modern prints. I guess that's my love for comic books showing! I'm also trying to be a more ethical consumer, so I buy most of my clothes from vintage or thrift stores. I love the challenge to update  those pieces and mix them with my current pieces!

Who inspires you? Lots of people inspire me! A lot of those I look up to are my family and close friends, but my husband is number 1 on that list. He inspires me to do better and be better.

How did you become skilled in designing blogs? Oh Nini, you flatter me! I don't have any formal training in design or even css/html, and most of it I learned while making layouts for all the webpages I've had when I was a teen. I started playing with code and "design" around back when Geocities was huge, but never really took it seriously until I started my current blog and etsy store where I had to learn how to make my sites more appealing and user-friendly. It's really just a lot of experimentation and practice. :)
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? Hopefully, in 5 years, I'll have my own wee storefront. I love working with my hands and creating, and I really hope to be able to share that.
