Make Up For Ever - Mist & Fix

Recently I was given a sample of Make Up For Ever's Mist & Fix to try. I have been a HUGE fan of all things Make Up Forever. From their Black Ink Liner, to their Artisan Brush Collection, to their HD Foundation and Kit. I was absolutely thrilled to try their Mist and Fix and use it with my daily makeup application routine.

As someone who walks to work daily, the elements are always, if not harshly exposed to my skin. Whether its the blistering cold, the wind, and damp (early) spring days, I was really looking forward to something that would keep my makeup in place.

I was however a bit disappointed in this formula. For one thing, after three days of wearing the Mist & Fix, I did notice my skin started to break out. The formula is suposedly ideal for all skin types, but I have to say that it wasn't doing mine any favours. :(

Make Up Forever: Black Liner Review

There are are a few must have staples in my makeup bag. I absolutely cannot live without concealer, chap stick, mascara and eyeliner. I wear it every day.  I was more than thrilled to have received a sample of Make Up For Ever’s Ink Liner to try.

The Ink Liner is super light and to my surprise, extremely easy to use. Over the years I have usually relied on a pencil for eyeliner, but this definitely gave me more of a polished and bold look.

What's nice about the brush is that you can go from ultra-fine to graphically bold, and everything in between.  It creates an intense, super-matte and quick drying line. and it stayed on all day. the only weird thing was the initial feeling/sensation of something wet on your eye drying.

MAKE UP FOR EVER has increasingly become one of my favourite brands when it comes to makeup that lasts and looks flawless. My favourite everyday products have been their HD Invisible Cover Foundation, HD Microfinish Powder (see review here) and their holiday holodiam limited edition eyeshadow. While I have loved the products that MAKE UP FOR EVER has brought to the table, I have always used my own set of brushes in applying the foundation, primer and other products.

However, MAKE UP FOR EVER recently launched their “mere” 76 luxury brush collection (some products are now available at Sephora). This extensive set ranges from everyday ‘must-haves’ to highly customized tools to create the most intricate artistic effects.

The Artisan Brush Collection 2013 is classified by the following:

100s = complexion

200s = eyes

300s = lips

400s = artistic specially designed for professionals.

I was given the opportunity to try out their large foundation brush (100s collection). I usually start of my makeup routine by applying moisturizer and then squeezing foundation and primer on the back of my hand, and applying with a brush (either a kabuki brush or a foundation brush).

One of the things I like about the foundation brush is that it is large, with soft but stiff bristles, making foundation application quick and easy. The collection of seventy six brushes took Creator & Artistic Director Dany Sanz and her team over five years to create. Dany wanted a variety of synthetic fibers that mimicked the silky softness of natural hair. These brushes feel amazing!

A con however is that because it is a bit larger, it may be difficult to travel with, unless you’re someone who doesn’t mind taking large brushes with you. While I really do enjoy the 108 Large Foundation brush, I can't say its that different from some of the other brushes I have, but it is still a wonderful piece, especially if your are looking for a new brush to add to your collection.

Make Up Forever: Pomegranate Pink Aqua Rouge & Aqua Lip

All right, so how many of you have ever put on your lipstick, and tried to emulate a lipstick commercial that boasts that it is smudge-proof and waterproof, only to find your perfect shade on the napkin from breakfast? It cant only be me! and the thought of having to reapply, to get that perfect lip before the 10 am meeting? Forget it, I used to just go to my trusty lip balm. But, within the past week all that has changed. Guys, I am serious! 

Allow me to introduce you to your new best friend Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge and Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip. It's got the stay power of making it through that morning coffee, right down to the happy hour wine glass.  This is truly a waterproof lip liner and lip colour! to prove it, take a look at my Instagram Photo, while I was wearing in action.

I tried both the Aqua Lip and Aqua Rouge are in Colour #19 Pomegranate Pink. How does this work you may ask? Magic! no in all seriousness, apply the lip liner on (I cover my whole lip) and let sit for about 5 to 10 seconds. Follow it with the Aqua Rouge (the pigment side) and apply the wand to your lip. Let the liquid set before adding the gloss, for a finished look.  

One of the drawbacks is that it cannot be mixed with any other lipgloss, lipstick or liner that is not from the Aqua collection. Trust me I know, trial and error! I also found that the way to remove the pigment was to use a gentle eye makeup remover. They weren't kidding when they said it was waterproof!

 

I can't wait to try some of the other Aqua Rouge colours with my Pomegranate Pink Aqua Lip for other colour combinations. The debate is between #16 Fuschia and #18 Coral.  And they are both available at Sephora (Must resist Online shopping!)

Holiday Holodiam by Makeup Forever

Tis the season for holiday parties, festive get-togethers, office shindigs and of course glamorous (maybe over-rated) New Year’s Eve celebrations. While I love the holiday season, and the good cheer it brings, there are a few things that are making my list this year for holiday cheer.

1. Holiday Cookies. One can never say no to my Toblerone Shortbread.
2. Lights Lights & more Lights – though sometimes eerie (especially on bare trees) I love how beautiful the city looks as they twinkle! 
3. Christmas Displays - Need I say more? 
4. Make Up For Ever’s Limited Edition Eye Shadow from the Holodiam Collection #302. Ever since I saw this, I knew it had to be mine. I mean an eye shadow that has a unique finish of 3 colors in one? Sign me up!

Ok in all seriousness though, I am in love with it! Make Up For Ever has just been stepping up to the plate recently with things that I must have. Especially for my skin tone, the multiple highlights and color reflection from one shadow makes this a perfect showstopper.

Beware: This small package contains lots sparkle to tickle your toes and perfect for that stocking stuffer.

I’ve worn it to work (a light finish and it did not illicit crazy stares from co-workers) just brush it on (make sure to put a Kleenex under your eyes to catch any of the extra that falls from the brush). And I’ve worn it wet for a dramatic nighttime look.

Love the way this goes on! gives so many hues without having to mix with anything else!

I’d have to say, this holiday season is shaping up mighty fine: I’ve already seen some lights, holiday displays and put my sparkle on. Guess the only thing left to do is actually bake those cookies!

Make Up For Ever: Apricotty Goodness

About a month ago, I did a review on Make Up For Ever's Pretty Pastel Eye Shadows. In my post I had mentioned that I really wanted to try their other pastel colours, particularly Vibrant Blue #118 and Apricot Orange Sheen #25. Make Up For Ever generously supplied me with both eye shadows to try out. I have to say from the two I am in LOVE with #25. Apricot Sheen is a perfect colour. It goes on with such a rich texture. The colour is vibrant and really showed. I found that #25 can be mixed with so many colours going from day to night time looks (browns golds, pinks, and blues)

I also have to mention how long lasting this eye shadow was. Even though I did not use a primer, I was able to wear this eye shadow all day and well into the evening without having to touch up or having creases form.

 

As I mentioned before, I am a new Make Up For Ever Convert and am in love with my other products from them including their lip gloss Lab Shine which is not sticky at all, and the colour goes on great with or without lipstick! I am usually never really a person who promotes products but I also love their Primer & Foundation.
