Expecting the Unexpected?

What a conundrum that one is - right?

A few years back…ok…many years back tear-away pants were all the rage. Being a Human Kinetics Major, my go to wardrobe for school was sneakers, a t-shirt and of course (matching) tear-away pants. YEP the ones that had snap-on buttons all down the side. Talk about shapeless and unflattering (and also a moment where you look back and wonder "what was I thinking?"). What does this have to do with expecting the unexpected? Well…given that these pants were "airy", precautions had to be taken for potential mishaps. I learned that lesson once when one of the holes got caught on something and well….all the snap buttons came undone leaving what you would think would be a pretty embarrassing moment. But, I was prepared for such an occasion and always wore shorts underneath saving myself and others from indecent exposure!

It's the same with people. People never cease to amaze me. Their resilience, their compassion, their sheer will and effort at achieving their goals. Doing something that most people thought was absolutely impossible, and in short, making it POSSIBLE.

Experience has also taught me that sometimes, along the way, some people can become misguided in which unexpected things occur. Sometimes the only thing you CAN do is: raise an eyebrow; do a double take (i.e. ask "did that just happen?"); scratch your head in bewilderment and ponder the following question - "why?". But the lesson I've learned tear-away pants style is being prepared is one thing but so is learning to LET GO of preparedness and EMBRACE the unexpected. Because no matter how much you anticipate, something will take you by surprise.

Blogger Award

Recently I was honoured by Elaine of Following Augustine with the Versatile Blogger Award. I am always humbled when someone thinks of me for these things : ) Elaine is absolutely wonderful and her blog is an inspiration…and she's Canadian!

There are four rules for those who choose to accept The Versatile Blogger award:
1. Thank the person who nominated you for the award and include a link to their blog.
2. Select and nominate 15 blogs that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly.
3. Contact your chosen bloggers to let them know that you are nominating them for the award.
4. Share 7 things about yourself.

I know time is precious and so I am going to modify numbers 2 and 4 I am only going to be doing 2 of each. Its not that there arent many wonderful bloggers out there, or that I don’t have 7 wonderful things to say, I just know it can be a lot to add so many new people and bloggers to the blog roll. But here are a few of my inspirations of late.

1.  Tin Foils Tiaras a wonderful Ottawa blogger who discusses fashion on a budget!
2. Sunny Days and Starry Nights a constant source or love, inspiration and pinterest pictures!

And now 2 things you don't know about me.
1. I could eat eggs for every meal if it were possible.
2. I have trouble sleeping so, on nights like those, these blog posts are written :)

What have you done lately to pay it forward?

Chill Factor

I hate the cold. Have I mentioned that before? I can say with confidence I actually loathe it. It doesn’t help that I am constantly cold all year round (A/C is not my friend), neither is walking (more like tiptoeing) outside when its slippery, ice and wet, praying I will keep my balance and not end up one with the sidewalk.

Besides having two left feet, I do however, enjoy Fall and Winter clothing. Thick sweaters, warm colours, and jackets.

What I am Wearing:
Jacket: Parasuco (Borrowed)
Scarf: (Gifted - but stolen! sigh!)
Boots: Nine West

Are you fan or foe of winter?

Strawberry Protein Pancakes

Recently I had a discussion about my blog and why it was called "A Fine Balance". I tried to articulate how it was a journey - a personal journey on finding the balance in my own life, but that it was peppered with three of the things I adore Fashion, Fitness and Food. With a quick look at past posts however, it was suggested that the blog had become more fashion oriented and had let go of the two other aspects that are equally as important.

A suggestion was made to change the name of the blog but I am on the fence. While I am open to the idea of moving the blog forward in a new direction, I also love where "A Fine Balance" has brought me. In an effort to bring the blog back to an equilibrium I am going to try and ensure that there is a balance between all three aspects. And no time like the present to get back at it.

Today's post features one of my favourite morning eats: Strawberry Protein Pancakes
 You will need:
1/3 Cup Oats
1 scoop Protein Powder (I used Beverly Cookies and Cream)
2 packets Stevia
1/3 cup Egg Whites
1 tbsp Ground flax
6 Strawberries
Cinnamon or Pumpkin Spice to taste
Blender (my daily Hamilton Beach Blender is available for $20.00 at Wal-Mart)
Note: Caloric content minus the ground flax and this may be off by a bit.
Protein Carbs Fat Calories
41.83 27.5 2.1 296.22
Don't mind the mess on the counter!
So what if they're not circular? they taste just as yummy
What are your thoughts on a re-branding of the blog? Do you think A Fine Balance represents itself well? Looking forward to your thoughts!

Grey Matter

Gloomy, cold and dark mornings can be downright uninspiring.  Today was one of those mornings.  It was a day for the easy, "go-to" (by go-to I mean stolen borrowed) clothing from unsuspecting family members. I secretly, but not so secretly borrowed this dress from Auntie R. I just fell in love! Such great detail and it fit like a glove (i.e. it should be mine! hint hint ;p).

I paired it with a pearl necklace and bracelet and black pumps. The outfit, matched my sombre mood…after all, its only a little grey matter.

What I am Wearing:
Dress: Max and Cleo
Pearls: Bijouterie Elysée (Montreal)
Pumps: Nine West
